Introducing Kula Wai

Accessing quality healthcare is a significant challenge for many residents of Northern Hawai‘i Island. Kula Wai is dedicated to breaking down these barriers and improving health outcomes for the entire community, with a special emphasis on supporting Native Hawaiians. Funded through a grant from the Administration for Native Americans (ANA), our program provides vital assistance to help residents navigate and overcome healthcare obstacles.

Kula Wai offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the diverse needs of the community. Our team assists with applications for financial, housing, and health insurance support programs, including TANF, SNAP, and utility assistance. We also help residents manage appointments and enroll in chronic disease programs, ensuring they receive consistent and effective care. To empower individuals further, we provide health literacy coaching, equipping them to navigate the healthcare system with confidence.

Our services extend to specialty care referrals, healthcare-related travel assistance, and guidance in completing advance healthcare directives (AHCD). Kula Wai also supports enrollment in alcohol or substance abuse treatment programs and connects individuals to adult or child protective services. For those facing domestic or family violence, we offer compassionate support for reporting and accessing resources.

Additionally, Kula Wai assists with Social Security disability applications and developmental disability services, ensuring access to critical benefits and support.

To enroll in Kula Wai, participants must be patients of Kipuka o ke Ola, either through primary care or behavioral health services. While our program is available to all residents of Northern Hawai‘i Island, we are especially committed to ensuring Kānaka Maoli have the resources and support they need to thrive.
